Let's get fizzical!*

Bucksfizz

I went to my sister's at the weekend and came home with a pile of CDs to, erm, listen to. I've got Take That, Five Star, Spandau Ballet, Bros, Whitney Houston, Duran Duran, Erasure and more. Yep, her music tastes are even more stuck in the 80s than mine. At least I've moved on to current acts who just sound like they're from the decade that taste forgot. (Or was that the 70s? I forget. You know what they say: if you can remember the 70s you weren't there. Or is that the... never mind.)

So I'm listening to the Bucks Fizz Greatest Hits as it's uploading I'm working and it's great! I've just sung along lustily with One of Those Nights, which includes one of the worst lyrics of all time:

  Some nights when I’m alone
I get up from a dream
  I light a cigarette
I lie there in the dark
  And think why we're apart
  I just can't figure it

Cigarette/figure it? Genius.

Anyway, as I danced in my seat to Can't Stand the Heat (I remember the full routine, of course), I wondered whether I'd shared my total Bucks Fizz obsession with my loyal blog readers (who, funnily enough, I can hear groaning at the prospect!). I know I've mentioned Bros. And Take That. And perhaps I've touched on the Fizz, but I'm not sure if the full story has been revealed.

Holy crap! As I'm writing When We Were Young has just come on. Jeez. What was that all about, eh?

Anyhoo. I think this could be Bucks Fizz week, what do you think? No? Well, tough.

(For the benefit of foreigners and youngsters, you can learn all about Bucks Fizz here.)

*Seriously, that was the headline for tons of articles about Bucks Fizz

I remember doing the dance routine at school (er, it was in infant school, and I can't remember the dance, but the song is burned into my brain) for Making Your Mind Up.
I also had a Bros obsession, but I think I'm cured, although I still have a Bros patch on my backpack, so maybe not.

I read an article about Da Fizz when I was home a few weeks ago, and they've had quite the revolving door of singers. I don't see a comeback in their future a la The Spice Girls or Take That.

PS) Unless Posh wants to be their "singer". Quotation marks intended. :)

a whole week? really?

*hides*

;)

Any more cheek and it'll be Bucks Fizz month! ;)

Dude, Bucks Fizz were amazing!

I went to see them in 1982 (although I wasn't actually born until 1985 of course...) and then years later I saw two of them (Mike and Bobby I think) at Butlins with two random stand ins for the girls!

I still occasionally have a Bucks Fizz session!

The best line up was of course the original one, none of the Darren Van Day nonsense! Even Jay Aston (who I always thought of as a total bitch) was wonderful until she left!

Ooh, I must listen to them right away!! :)

Oooh! Just remember how ace the song You Are Your Heart So Blue is! I have an amazing version of Cheryl Baker doing this acapella version of it if you're interested!

*squeals excitedly*

Oh dear... mmm
I can remember weird hair and ripping off of skirts.
And now Cheryl advertises products to make hair thicker. Is it all connected one wonders....?

I wouldn't have thought so... they ripped off the skirts, not the hair! ;)

'I have a friend who comes to tea, who no one else can see but me. They came today, but had to go - to visit you? - you never know.' - Classic!

If it wasn't for Bucks Fizz we would not be friends...damn them!!!
No I loved them, but not with the same passion as you!

A couple of years ago I was compiling a list of possible titles for my just-finished book when Bucks Fizz came on the TV singing Making Your Mind Up. Sent the list off to the publishers and that's the one they chose...

Jill, that's why when I finally read one of your books (and I'm sorry I haven't yet - Trashionista keeps me too busy!), that's the one I'm going to read first! :)

Run for the sun little one!!! Bless the Fizz.
Jill - I've just brought home a copy of said book, my friend lent me a copy!

Jeez, Suzi, you don't tell the author you've *borrowed* a copy. That's worse than never having read one of their books at all. Probably. ;)

Hey, I love people borrowing my books! The idea is that they then like them and tell other people how great they are, then eventually someone somewhere further along the line actually buys one...then lends it to a friend etc etc...
And Keris, hope you're going to be watching Britain's Next Top Model.

Jill I work in a library and people are always borowing your books and your on our 'standing orders list', which means we'll automatically buy your next one when it's out without even looking at it first! One day Keris will be on our standing order list too - I can't wait for that! :-)

Jill and Suzi - I was only joking about the borrowing in case you think I'm a right loon! (Although Suzi knows I am) On the Yahoo chick lit list the authors are always discussing the pros and cons of libraries and second hand bookshops. The point being borrowing a book or buy it second hand = no money for the author, but there's always someone who makes the same point as Jill, i.e. that people *reading* your books is always a good thing!

And thanks, Joyce. I can't wait for that too. I'm not holding my breath tho. ;)

Also - and not to suck up to Jill *too* much ;) - when I worked at Waterstone's people who bought Jill's books were the second most guaranteed to say, "Have you read any of these books? They're great!" (The first were Maeve Binchy fans. I don't think anyone ever bought a Maeve Binchy book without telling me I should read her. I haven't, yet.)

Oh and Britain's Next Top Model... Er, I wasn't planning on it. Maybe I'll try the first one and see if I get sucked in...

We do a kind of book swap at work, we take books into the staff room and people take them home, read them and then bring them back for someone else to read. Although if I like the book I just keep it!! Not really in the spirit of the idea but I hate giving away good books.

PS - I can confirm she is a loon!!

Good grief I remember you! That was me in the photo of you with fizz trying to stand out of your way in the blue coat with bits of colour on at New Brighton in 1989 or whenever it was.

How funny! Have you still got that coat? ;)
