Review by Hazel Holmes.
The long-awaited sequel to Starcrossed is nearly here!
Dreamless picks up right where Starcrossed left off. We find ourselves joining Helen in the torturous Underworld on her quest to find the Furies. Whilst battling with her teenage life, a broken heart and forbidden love, she also has to descend every night into Hades’ Underworld – harsh. She’s getting nowhere fast in her mission to lift the curse the Furies hold over the Demigod Houses, and just as the endless frustration gets too much, Orion appears to help her. Dark, handsome, mysterious Orion. Now, we’re all fond of a good love triangle and this one is electric, it’s one to rival Bella, Edward and Jacob (yawn), or Katniss, Peeta and Gale.
Angelini writes a brilliant story, and has developed the characters we met in Starcrossed even more. It must be hard to make a reader fall in love with all the main characters, even harder to make you sympathise with a beautiful wilful Demigod. Helen is a complex character, a powerful and determined young woman. Although, her relationship with Lucas is a little frustrating at times, I found myself wanting to leap into the book and shake her. Yet we as readers know the truth, she does not. It’s unfair to blame her for this.
I couldn’t race through this book quick enough. Angelini leaves us with an explosive final chapter and I literally cannot wait for the next book in the series. A supreme mix of mythology, brutal action and heart rending romance. The perfect summer read.
