A strange new supply teacher has arrived at Miku Takeshita's school. There is something odd about Mrs Okuda, and Miku knows exactly what she is hiding.
Following Mrs Okuda's arrival, strange things have started happening - weird snowfalls, faces in the skies, odd charity workers knocking on the doors... And Miku knows exactly what is going on.
DEMONS.But then, the demons take a step too far: they take her baby brother, Kazu.
Armed with the knowledge of her late Baba (grandmother), Miku, accompanied by her friend Cait, sets off on a terrifying journey to find him, but time is running out. They have no idea where to look, or indeed, how many people are in danger. But one thing is for certain: they just have to find him.
On a journey full of caramel-coloured suits, flying heads, weird weather, and frozen pipes, will they ever find him?
Okay, okay, so I probably didn't sell that book to you very well in the last sentence, but you will have to trust me: the book is amazing, and I hardly put it down :DNow, onto the characters: Miku appeared to be lovely, although she isn't lovable, and Cait is the same. Most of the demons are evil, but the ones who aren't are not really described enough so as to enable you to make up your mind whether you like them or not. However, I did quite like Nure-onna, one of the nice demons. I can't say much else about the characters, because the author didn't go into much detail about them. That is understandable though, as the rest of the story is much more interesting :D
The style of writing in this book is dark and eerie, yet if you "peel back the layers" (meaning focus more on the sentences, re-reading them if you have to), then you will find it quite witty & entertaining too, with the sarcasm being the most part of the comedic aspect.
The book is suitable for most ages, with my 8-year-old sister and my 12-year-old brother both reading it too.
Another thing that I liked about this book is that it gave a glimpse of the first chapter of the sequel to this book, Takeshita Demons II. I shall definitely be keeping an eye out for it, as it sounds quite good.
I give this book a rating of 4 out of 5 stars.
