Fliss has dreams of being an actress, even though her mother doesn't take them seriously. When Fliss gets the chance to star in the school's production of Romeo and Juliet, she's over the moon. An added bonus is that the Romeo to her Juliet is Tom, a boy she has a huge crush on. But off the stage, Fliss is shy, and she can't tell Tom how she feels. And the arrogant Samantha is waiting in the wings to make a play for Tom, and possibly to stir up trouble for the whole production. Can Fliss gain the confidence she needs to reclaim the limelight?
This is the first book in a new romance series aimed at pre-teen readers. Each book in the series will focus on a different hobby, and in Star Crossed, it's acting.
I found the rehearsal scenes in this book were brilliantly brought to life, and there were lots of fascinating details about sets and costumes too. It was great to see the shy Fliss slipping into role and becoming a different person. I was completely convinced by Fliss's talent and I was rooting for her on every page! I also loved Fliss's friends, whose dialogue was full of humour and friendly support for each other, and the poignant subplot involving Fliss's relationship with her mother. There were many fantastic characters, but Mari was probably the one who stole the show for me - she's outspoken, loyal and fun.
A very sweet novel about acting and light romance, perfect for younger readers.

This sounds so much fun! A little light relief is just what you need sometimes and this seems like the perfect book to deliver it.
