Chicklish welcomes M. G. Harris, author of The Joshua Files series, on her fabulous Zero Moment blog tour. M. G. is spelling out "ZERO MOMENT" with her post titles and we're the fourth stop, so here is the first "O"...
Om nom nom
– the
nommity meme – (Zero Moment Blog tour #4)
by M.G. Harris
A few weeks ago, a small ruckus broke out on Twitter about whose crew first started using ‘om nom nom’. Like all successful memes, everyone in the world simultaneously believed that their friendship-group invented it.
Urban Dictionary
suggests this definition:
The sound of ravenous eating.
Popularized by the character Cookie Monster on Sesame Street, it is now used
commonly in speech, especially among younger people. Cookie Monster exclaims
"OM NOM NOM NOM" when gobbling down cookies (and whatever else goes
in his mouth).
You can "om nom" on things besides food... for example, play-eating babies'
toes to make them laugh.
Here’s Cookie
Monster and Kermit discussing the structure of books…even Cookie thinks
books are good enough to eat.
Interesting that it’s The Young who use it commonly in speech, because
Cookie Monster and Sesame Street are less prevalent than they were when I were
a lass. Then again maybe I’m not the only parent who entertains their kids at
bedtime with hand puppets of Cookie, Ernie and Bert. Who’s with me? COME ON!
Nom.
It conjours images of crumbly cookies, chunks of fudge, cupcakes piled high
with frosting. Or for those with book fetishes, a big stack of freshly-printed
books, all ready to be reviewed. This is the context in which I tend to see the
phrase, and Liz de Jager (@lizuk)
was the first person on the Internetz that made me feel that wonderfully
special I-Am-Not-Alone, moment when she used ‘nom nom’ to describe some
particularly nommity books that she was about to review for her blog MyFavouriteBooks.blogspot.com
If you haven’t used it yet…betcha find yourself nomming away in a few
days.
2. - Crumbly
candy bars from Mr
Simms Olde Fashioned Sweet Shop
3. - Slabs
of overpriced fudge from Fudge Kitchen
4. - A
production line of an author’s latest title. Especially when you are the
author… Here’s Zero Moment
zooming along the presses at BookMarque printers.
5. - Mockingjay,
part 3 of The Hunger Games, out in August 2010. Slurp. Can’t wait. Combine with
1,2 or 3.

You're definitely not the only one who entertains their kids at bedtime with hand puppets. I put on hand puppet plays all the time with the puppets from SuperSmartyPants! Be proud of your puppeteering!
