The book is about fifteen-year-old Nina. Well, technically, she is fifty-one... because she’s a vampire. Nina hates being a vampire as there are rules and regulations - having to wear sunglasses all the time, being counted as clinically dead during the day, and many other reasons. Plus, her only friends are the other reformed vampires in the support group, and her mother.
But one day Casimir, the oldest vampire in their group, is slayed by an unknown vampire slayer. This causes chaos, and the group know they have to find the slayer before they’re all killed. They come across some suspects, one of which leads Nina, Dave and Father Ramon, to the other side of Australia. Meet The McKinnons, a balding pair of father and son, who are criminals. The vampires are locked up by the pair, after getting on the wrong side. They need to escape, before the real slayer kills the rest of the group. They manage to do so, with the help of a werewolf, but that isn’t quite the last of the McKinnons. In the end they end up with more vampires in the group than they started with and can they find the mysterious slayer before it’s too late?
At the moment, so many vampire books are hitting the shelves thanks to Stephenie Meyer and the Twilight saga being a big hit, I would have expected the book to be quite boring and dull, maybe just another re-take of the saga. But I was really surprised, and absolutely loved book! It isn’t like Twilight in any way (except for the vampire part), which I think makes it very original and different.
I will definitely recommend the book to any age, and the plot just kept surprising me more and more. Just one little complaint: at the end there is an unnecessary part where “Nina” says that all the names in the book are different, just to keep them anonymous. That’s all!
I give the book 5 stars out of 5!

Its not really thanks to Stephenie Meyer... Ann Rice was the author who started the vampire addiction. A lot of people find that the Twilight Saga is bad literature.
