Amber interviews Narinder Dhami, author of the Bindi Babes series, The Beautiful Game series, Bang, Bang You're Dead! and many more fabulous books for all ages.
Hello! If you and one of your characters were the last people on earth, which character would you like it to be?
I think I'd choose Amber Dhillon, the narrator of the Babes books, as she'd be bound to have some fantastical ideas for getting us out of trouble!
Out of all the books you have written, which is your favourite?
'Animal Crackers', a funny story for younger kids.
What was Bang, Bang You're Dead! inspired by?
I wanted to write a thriller, and, like all of us, I'd seen stories in the newspapers and on TV about shootings in schools. It took me a long time to do the research before I started writing, though. I knew it was a topic that had to be handled carefully.
Which of your books did you enjoy writing most?
I think it was Bang, Bang... although it took a lot of effort. I spent three months doing research and three months writing the book. I did five or six drafts.
Did anything in particular inspire you to become an author?
I always enjoyed reading and writing stories from a very early age, and being an author was always something I wanted to do.
Finally, can we expect any more books from you in the future?
Yes! My latest series is for 8-12 year olds and it's called The Beautiful Game. There are six books about six girls who play football. The first one is called 'Hannah's Secret', and it's out now!
Thank you very much, Narinder Dhami!
