Review by Luisa Plaja.
This is the second book in the Airhead trilogy. Brainy feminist Emerson Watts is living the life of Nikki Howard, a supermodel. She's having to balance outlandish photo shoots with studying for tests at school, and also balance the (not entirely) unwanted attentions of more than one pin-up A-list guy with the non-attention of the love of her life, Christopher, who doesn't even know who she is. He thinks all models are airheads - can Em convince him otherwise? And then there are increasingly sinister turns concerning the company that Nikki works for, Stark Enterprises...
I loved this book as much as I loved the first Airhead novel. It's a great sequel, and it also does a good job of telling new readers the story so far. It's full of suspense, humour and fabulous plot twists, many of which stem from new characters. Lulu, my favourite character from the first book, is back and being her cute, lovable self, and Frida, who oddly reminds me of Dawn from Buffy, also gets some interesting moments. I enjoyed seeing the gradual change in Em's character as she gains an appreciation for her weirdly extended family, and her doubts about Christopher's possible 'supervillain' status were very funny. Best of all, there were some great romantic scenes in this book. It's definitely one for Meg Cabot fans and anyone who likes light-hearted romantic fiction with a suspenseful edge.
I managed to get my hands on a US version of this book (thanks, Keris!) but the book won't be released in the UK until September 2009, with Runaway, the third and final instalment, due out in May 2010 in the USA and September 2010 in the UK. I can't wait!
(By the way, to borrow an idea from the fabulous Wondrous Reads, which cover do you prefer? US is first, followed by UK. Note the appearance of little Cosi on the US cover...)

Ooh this sounds good! You got my interest when you mentioned Dawn from Buffy :)
As for the covers, I much prefer the US one. I think the UK one looks a bit too young... but that's just me!

Thanks a lot for the comment! Hmm, I think it could be just me with the Dawn from Buffy thing, though - perhaps the only thing they have in common is that they both have older sisters! :)

I loved Airhead so I'm really excited for this. And I think I prefer the US one too.

I think the UK cover is more fun, but the US cover seems more in line with what's going on in teen book covers recently (at least in the US, that is).

I haven't read the first book but it seems like an interesting series. And I prefer the US version. I think the UK version looks like it is aimed at a younger audience.

Ooh, I really want to read it! I like the US cover better, though- it's more specific to the book. The UK one is fun and eye-catching, but a bit more generic and more childish, perhaps.

I think that in Runaway when Em tells Christopher she loves Brandon and rides away in the car that if there's a movie, they should play breaking up is hard to do in the slow version and when Christopher finally kisses Em, they should play Baby You Know by Brandon T. Jackson and Jessica Lucas.
