Cal is a Silvertail - a girl with a dolphin’s tail. She has been kept in the
dark her whole life (literally and mentally) and questions keep bobbing
up about who she is, who her mother was, where she came from, and why her
father is keeping all this from her. When she leaves the sunken village and
goes up to the surface to take a breath, she meets Jake.
Jake has never known
his real family. He was found on a beach in a boat as a baby by Charley
and Lil. They brought him up, but now they are both dead and he has nowhere to go.
So he takes the boat and sets out not knowing where he is going or how he is
going to get there.
Their lives collide
and both realise they have a lot more in common then they realise. Together
they have to find the breath of a Merrow. Not any Merrow though - Sylla, Cal’s
mother. And they need to save the other Silvertail pods from the Bloodfin's plans to
kill them all off. Can they do it all in time to save Cal’s father? And do they
really need to answer Cal’s
questions?
This book was both relaxing to read and kept you on the edge of your seat. It was perfect to read on a beach where you really got the feel of the power of the sea.
