Review by Alexandra
In this book the Chinese New Year is approaching. This means Eon will be facing his ultimate challenge. He’s spent years training as one of twelve candidates to become the new Dragoneye apprentice to the Rat Dragon. In Eon’s world, dragons belong in a mythical and powerful world and they form connections and bonds to the population of China - through a Dragoneye and his apprentice.
But all the odds are stacked against Eon getting the coveted apprenticeship. Worse, if the Rat Dragon doesn’t pick him at the upcoming ceremony, then his Master, who’s funded his training, and his Master’s household, will be ruined. Eon has special traits though and he’s different to the other candidates.
This is quite a big book, but I was quickly glad it was a longer read, and even happier that there could be a sequel. It has it all: Great sword scenes, danger, friendships, mystery, power, enemies, struggles…. It’s also beautifully written. The story and characters are captivating and every page brings new, exciting adventures.
I’m not going to give too much away as the twists and turns of the novel are what make it really exciting and special. I can only say: read it!
It’s out on January 1st – perfect for your Christmas book tokens!
