Stopmouth isn’t like the other men in his tribe, he st-t-t-tutters, is weak and is up for the flesh trade any day. He envies his brother Wallbraker for having, the looks the skills and the girls. Not any girl though: Mossheart, the girl of his dreams. On the day of his brother’s wedding, Wallbraker betrays Stopmouth for saving his life. Stopmouth forgives him but how far will that forgiveness go? There are rival species (such as hoppers, amourbacks, haribeasts, bloodskin and many more) on the prowl, and the flesh trade for those creatures who crave human flesh. Life outside their district is dangerous, sometimes suicidal. Then on hunting trip a strange woman falls from the sky right into their district. Her skin is flawless and beautiful but she doesn’t speak a word of their language. That day changes everyone’s life - but for the good or for worse? The woman, Indrani, and Stopmouth start a journey that will test their courage, trust in each other and the will to survive.
This book was like no other I’ve read; it was so original. It had such a good way of telling the story with everyone’s point of view in. The storyline was so quick to understand and even quicker to respect the characters and feel sorry for them in the harsh world they lived in. Only one complaint: at the end, it left me screaming at the book “NO NO NO, why did it end!" I could have read that book for the rest of my life!!!
