My addiction to chick-lit started early on, when I devoured
Judy Blume’s books at top speed, and then progressed into the Sweet Valley High/Sweet
Dreams series. They didn’t sit too well with my other teen reading choices,
which were mainly horror books by Stephen King and Dean Koontz! But while the blood-thirsty,
black books have disappeared from my bookshelves over the years, the pink
sparkly ones have only continued to increase. I read loads and particularly love
Ann Brashares, Meg Cabot and Louise Rennison.
After graduating I experimented with many different
professions but didn’t like any of them much. Eventually I realised maybe I
should focus on what I really loved – creative writing. I was among the first
intake of the MA in Writing for Young People at Bath Spa University. Since I finished my MA, I’ve cunningly
managed to avoid going back to full-time office work, and spend three days a
week freelancing for various publishing houses and continuing to write. I’m on
the committee for the Bath Festival of Children’s Literature, and now have the
claim to fame that I’ve made cups of tea for loads of famous authors.
I also have a website.
