Let me start by saying that Joe is six months old, so he's not *incredibly* discerning, but I do think it's important to introduce children to books as soon as possible and so, with this in mind, I picked up What Do Zebras Do? at our local library and showed it to Joe. He was absolutely delighted. So delighted, in fact, that I brought it home and, when he continued to find it thrilling, went back for more in the same series.
We've now cleared three different libraries out of about twelve different What Do... Do? books. They're very simple, with just a few words on each page, but it's the illustrations Joe loves. They're cute and simple with reflective bits and Joe kicks his legs with glee at the sight of them. And one of the things I find refreshing is that they don't shy away from the realities of animal life. For instance, the zebras book ends with "Lions eat zebras. Zebras are good at running." Never too young to learn about the circle of life!
