I know, I know. We've only just dealt with the Something Borrowed issue and now we've got an even thornier problem - looks like One for the Money - the first of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum books - is FINALLY being made into a movie. And Katherine Heigl has signed up to play Stephanie.
I always wanted Sandra Bullock, but I have to admit she might be a bit *whisper* old. Unlike a lot of people, I don't have strong feelings about Katherine Heigl one way or another. I didn't watch much Grey's Anatomy, but I did like her in Knocked Up. I think I can see her as Stephanie...
What do you think? And who would you like to see as Joe and Ranger?[via New York Daily News and @bevrosenbaum]

What? What?? She's too blonde and tall! Sandra would have been great, but failing that, someone short and with dark hair and a bit klutzy is needed... Ginnifer Goodwin would be great, in fact.

No, Stephanie IS tall, I'm almost sure of it! And I imagine she'll go dark for it, she's done it before. And I bet she can do klutzy.
I think Ginnifer seems way too young. Also too short and too cute.
I'd like Patrick Dempsey for Joe, so that might be interesting...
Posted by: Keris | 10 February 2010 at 01:37 PM
I thought she was small, or small-ish. I know she has long brown curly hair. I'll have to be convinced about Heigl, I just don't see it at all. Ginnifer is the right age (she's supposed to be just under 30 isn't she?) though I appreciate she looks younger than she is. She's a great comic actress though. Heigl's more pretty and smiley.
I like this bloke for Joe, always have:
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001263/
That's not a very good picture, but he's the bloke Lynette almost had an affair with in Desperate Housewives.
The real question is, who'll play Rex? ;)
Posted by: Diane | 10 February 2010 at 07:39 PM
Ps: You like Patrick Dempsey for everything! (But he's too OLD.)
Posted by: Diane | 10 February 2010 at 07:40 PM
No, I'm sure she's tall or tall-ish. I'm thinking 5'10", maybe?
Oh, I like your bloke for Joe too. As long as he's sexy. Has to be sexy.
"Ps: You like Patrick Dempsey for everything!" Too right, I do. :)
And what about Ranger? Is The Rock too old now? (See, if they'd got on and made it, we could have had the perfect cast!)
When I saw Evanovich years ago, she said she liked Ellen Albertina Dow (at least, I think she said that...) for Grandma Mazur
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0016687/
But she's 92 now, so that's pushing it a bit.
(I think Estelle Getty would've been better, but obviously she's dead.)
Posted by: Keris | 10 February 2010 at 08:41 PM
Huh, I thought of her as 5'5 ish. Which is taller than me, but still. Yes, SUCH a shame they didn't make it sooner and Sandy B can't be in it cos she would be perfect.
And Ellen AD is EXACTLY how I pictured Grandma! But it'll go to Betty White, I bet ya. She's the go-to sassy old lady these days.
Yes, "my bloke" (ha, I wish) is sexxy - in a stubbly, mumbly, bit of rough kind of way which suits Joe. Patrick D would be too clean cut anyway, I think. But don't worry, they're sure to cast him in something else soon ;)
I think The Rock might be too old, and too light-skinned. There's a man I always picture as Ranger, but I can't remember his name. I think he has a scar on his face, too... it'll come to me... probably.
Ps Where/when did you see Evanovich?
Posted by: Diane | 11 February 2010 at 05:38 PM
Dempsey's playing the lead in The Art of Racing in the Rain, so that's nice.
You're probably right re Betty White. But that's okay. I like her.
Too light-skinned? Ranger's Hispanic, though, isn't he? So he's not necessarily very dark. I've never been *entirely* convinced by The Rock, so am open to suggestions.
Can't remember *when* I saw Evanovich (5 years ago? Maybe more?), but she was at St Anne's Church in Manchester and she said "m*th*rf*ck*r" which, even as an atheist, shocked me a bit. I mean, IN CHURCH! But she was great, very cool and funny. And it was then that she said that no-one ages in the books. Stephanie is the same age as she was in the first one and Rex will never die. Which is a relief.

Oh also I think Demi Moore was linked with it at one point. Totally can't imagine that.
Posted by: Keris | 11 February 2010 at 05:49 PM
Oh, no, Demi's not that good an actor really is she?
Ha, I remember your Evanovich story now. She is ballsy. And clearly hasn't been smited - maybe God loves a swearer ;)
I thought Ranger was black, and he um, blended in at night so all she could see of him was his earring glinting? (I DIDN'T WRITE IT!)
Yes, I like Betty White, too. (Ps: http://gawker.com/5469683/) And very happy for Dempsey :)
Posted by: Diane | 11 February 2010 at 06:30 PM
Not so much, no. I'll always love her thanks to St Elmo's Fire and About Last Night, but... no.
Ranger is Cuban-American, I just checked http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephanie_Plum#Ranger
That earring line made me wince, but it's one of those things I'm not COMPLETELY convinced is actually racist. (Except when people around here say it about other people's teeth.)
I will never be able to look at Betty White again without thinking "back vag" so thanks for nothing, Shipley!
Posted by: Keris | 11 February 2010 at 06:45 PM
I knew it would sound racist when I quoted it, but I'm not sure it is racist in context, either - though it's close enough to the kind of things racist people say that I would have left it out of the book, myself...
Cuban-American, eh? I can't think of anyone muscly enough.
And haha! You're um, welcome. It's the long dark hair that haunts me.
Posted by: Diane | 11 February 2010 at 07:43 PM
I did a google image search and Jimmy Smits came up. We could have totally cast this thing 20 years ago. Pah.
Posted by: Keris | 11 February 2010 at 07:52 PM
I always imagined Sandra Bullock too!
And I think of Mark Ruffalo for Joe
Posted by: Andrea | 12 February 2010 at 02:44 AM
Oh, I love Mark Ruffalo! I think he might be too nice (and a smidge too old - he has to be 40-ish), though.
Oh, Jimmy Smits, a young Sandy Bullock... sigh. That would have been so perfect.

Hi, late to this particular party but remembered the post. I've just started watching Grey's Anatomy on DVD and I love it. I really disliked Heigl in Knocked Up and *gags* 27 Million Dresses but Greys' has completely turned me around. I think she'll make a great Stephanie. Plus, if you close your eyes she sounds EXACTLY like CJ Cregg, which - if you think about it - is probably just right for Stephanie too.
Posted by: alison | 27 April 2010 at 09:15 AM
Thanks, Alison. I started watching Greys and liked her in that, but could not stand Meredith so had to stop. I'll probably give it a go one day tho, since people love it so much (and I love McDreamy).
Posted by: Keris | 27 April 2010 at 10:35 AM
Also Benicio Del Magnum would be my Ranger.

I AM SO BEHIND. I JUST FOUND THIS OUT AND AM WONDERING HOW I MISSED IT ON YOUR BLOG. gRRR
I'm with you on Sandra, I so wanted her like 8 years ago but it took so long to get to this stage of the movie.
I just looked at who is playing Ranger and Joe and while they are also not what I wanted I will keep an open mind. My one person who was picked was Sherri Shepherd as Lula, so yeah!
I haven't heard who is playing gramma yet.
Posted by: Moe | 18 July 2010 at 04:39 AM
I think Sherri Shepherd is perfect for Lula. Yes, grandma will be important.
