Much as I enjoyed Twilight, I had absolutely no interest in Stephenie Meyer's adult novel, The Host, until I listened to an interview with the author in which she described it as (and I'm paraphrasing) a love triangle where two sides of the triangle are in the same body. That's genius, don't you think?
The Guardian film blog describes it as follows: "In a near future in which Earth has been overrun by alien body-snatchers, one of their number is fused with a dying woman in an attempt to track down the planet's last remaining human resistance. However, complications ensue when the alien finds herself falling in love with the human's missing mate." I've read that a few times now and it still makes no sense to me. But that may be because I don't read sci-fi.
Anyway, The Host, like the Twilight series, is to be made into a movie with Andrew Niccol (The Truman Show, Gattaca) writing the script and directing. What do you think? Have you read The Host? Are you interested in a movie version?

I loved this book! I really had no interest in reading it either since I really am not a scifi fan but I loved it!

Great book, every bit as engrossing as the Twilight series, impossible to put down. I'm glad to hear there will be a movie, and just as glad to hear hint that The Host is the beginning of another trilogy. Can't wait for more.

Read it. Loved it. Glad it's being made into a movie. 'Nuff said. (BTW I hate Sci-fi but I loved The Host.)

it's a great book, you have to read it, seriously, is the best story, such an amazing web of emotions and sensations, explaining what it means to be human from an alien perspective, and what it feels like to share your mind with someone else that is supposed to be your enemy, really, really exciting, i read it in 2 days because i couldn“t stop, and the center of the story it's not about Sci-fi at all.

I am a huge (adult/mom) Twilight fan. I love to read and get totally lost in the characters & their story... BUT, when I read the Host I have to admit I was a bit disappointed. I was expecting more of a love story. It's not. It's not really sci-fi either. The story is creative, but I had a very difficult time connecting with the characters... feeling for them.
(SPOILER ALERT)
Nearly the entire story takes place in the middle of the Arizona dessert. I have lived in the Phoenix area... and it's miserable in the summer... like people DIE in the heat. The story made me feel kind of depressed. There is a bit of hope within the story, and the end paid off, but it was not in any way like the Twilight series. If I wasn't a Meyer fan, I probably would never have read this book. It was just a strange story that left me a little flat. I have this "thing" where I have to finish a movie or a book even if it's awful. The only book (ever) I did not waste my time finishing was the Time Traveler's Wife. I nearly put this one down as well. Sorry Steph!

At first it didn't sound appealing to me either. But I decided that i would trust stephenie meyer on this since I loved twilight so much. I'm glad I did. The host is AMAZING! the first chapters ARE a little slow and confusing but once it gets going this book is a fast-paced thriller! i am usually not much for science fiction, never have liked that genre. But the only thing science fiction about it is the aliens. it is almost just fantasy. Trust me on this. at least read half way and if you still don't like it then ok but at least try it. And it Mean the WHOLE half way!
It is completely different from the twilight series so don't go in thinking you'll find another bella and edward cause you won't. Their love is so easy but the host's is full of hardships and trial which seems to make it that much sweeter when it comes around. Everyone had a different opinion so don't necessarily judge this book cause of what others say about it.

I have to agree with some of the other comments... I didn't see it as an amazing story either, but I still think, it's at least great and it's growing on me, so maybe in a month or two, I'll love it as much as the Twilight Saga... In any case, it's a very well-ridden story, and you can't just leave the issues behind, it offers and I'm glad, they are making it into a film... :)
