Now, as you will no doubt get sick of hearing me say, I am a huge fan of Jennifer Crusie. Huge. I love her characters and her humour. I trust her. Where she writes, I follow. I would read this woman's freaking shopping list.
I also love supernatural stuff. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, paranormal chick lit, boy wizards; the whole freakshow.
But even I was flummoxed by the back cover blurb of this novel. Three women discover they are descended from Mesopotamian priestesses. After attending a dog training class taken by a goddess, they discover they have magic powers and, wait for it, talking dogs.
I don't want to give away the plot - suffice to say, the world is in jeopardy, the three women band together to fight the threat and some very hot guys turn up - but I will tell you this: it works. It's fun, it's snappy, and it's sexy. Although not as graphically sexy as the last Crusie collaboration I read (which damn near made my eyes pop out of my head).
Don't be put off if you're not keen on collaborations; the writing is really smooth, making it near-impossible to tell that it was written by three separate authors.
I am truly glad I gave Dogs And Goddesses a chance - and you will be too!
