I know that some women feel incredibly sexy when they're pregnant. I'm not one of them. I know that some women can't even wait the recommended six weeks post-birth to get back in the sack. I'm not one of those either. (And I can't even bring myself to think about those freakish women who actually want to do it during labour! Labour!)
When we had Harry, we probably went without sex for (and I really am - kind of - embarrassed to admit this) at least eighteen months. That was pretty much the entire duration of the pregnancy and then the same again once he'd been born. I was knackered. I was a physical wreck. I had absolutely no libido. And I also had no contraception and I certainly wasn't going to risk getting pregnant again.
But it's important to get back on the horse (?!) and books can certainly help. I mean, I learned about sex from books in the first place and so, inevitably, I would return to books to try and re-learn about sex.
Hot Sex by Tracey Cox comes highly recommended, but it's the kind of sex book that I just can't face reading. It's a sex manual. I have read at least some of it and it's one of those go a fortnight without touching and then you can touch, but not any dirty parts, etc. It could be that I'm just really lazy or it could be because I've been married almost 13 years, but ... meh.
I'd much rather read erotic, or sexy, fiction. Like Geneva Holliday's Seduction or the (horribly-named) Cliterature section of Scarlet magazine.
In fact, I wrote an article for Scarlet about the first things that gave you a special feeling... down below and there were a bunch of book recommendations. Like Lace, The Thorn Birds, The Fog (?!) and The French Lieutenant's Woman.
But the most, er, stimulating book I've ever read is the classic My Secret Garden by Nancy Friday.
